In May 2019, the world's first 1.5T liquid helium-free superconducting magnet for whole-body imaging was innovatively developed by Xingaoyi-Ningbo Gaosi Superconducting Technology Co. This cryogen-free superconducting magnet technology breaks through the dependence on liquid helium, overturns the traditional design thinking, and creates a new situation in the medical imaging industry.
Helium is found in very small amounts in nature and has important uses in satellite spacecraft launches, the missile weapons industry, low-temperature superconductivity research, and semiconductor production. More than 80% of the world's liquid helium supply comes from the U.S. Since 2007, the U.S. has restricted helium production by designating helium as a strategic resource, which has led to a continuous spike in global liquid helium prices. China has only 0.2% of the world's helium resources, while the U.S. has more than 50%.
