In May 2019, XinGaoYi-Ningbo Gaosi Superconducting Technology co.,(STC) innovated and developed the world's first 1.5-t full-body cryogen-free superconducting magnet, which was proudly unveiled at the 81st China international medical device expo at CMEF in Shanghai. The cryogen-free superconducting magnet technology breaks through the dependence on liquid helium, reverses the conventional design ideas and creates a new situation in the medical imaging industry.
Helium has a very small content in nature. Helium has important USES in satellite launch, missile weapon industry, low temperature superconductivity research and semiconductor production. More than 80% of the global supply of liquid helium comes from United States. Since 2007, United States has restricted the production of helium by using helium as a strategic resource, resulting in the continuous soaring of global price of liquid helium. China has just 0.2 percent of the world's helium, compared with more than 50 percent for United States.
How to reduce the use of liquid helium and the dependence on liquid helium is a new challenge that manufacturers have to face in the future. Xingaoyi's cryogen-free superconducting magnet has completely got rid of its dependence on liquid helium and truly opened a new era of cryogen-free superconducting magnetic resonance.
